Thought I'd have a go at making a sort of podcast. There's no talking on here, just music. I basically just threw together 20 something minutes of music that I'd downloaded from the Net, using Goldwave, and saved it as a mono ogg. Give it a go.

In February 1987 I spent 2 weeks with friends in Kreuzberg, Berlin. My friends had a tape recorder, so I recorded some things. I think their tape deck was part of their stereo system, so I didn't get to leave the house with it. This means I have no record of the exciting world of avant-garde art, street events or anarcho-happenings that were going on. Just some silly conversation and the abuse of a zither. A document.

In the 90s a very prolific guy called Thomas Sutter in St Louis had a tape exchange label that was full of great stuff that he had done with various collaborators. Here's one of the tapes from that label. It's a kind-of techno thing for people who don't like techno, I guess. There is a dearth of info on Thomas Sutter on the internet, which is a big shame.

Back to the tapes now. As I couldn't find any signs of this label still being in existence in any form, I figured I was alright to post this. It was done by Plankton lo-fi back in 1994, and I'm not really sure of the artist... Scaredy Cat or something? Anyway, it came in a single sleeve, and consists of 2 C60s of various plonking, warbling and meandering. Nice. This is 31 of 50, and that's what cassettes are all about!

This is because Stan is still selling this stuff, and a lot of it is available on higher quality cdr. A brilliant mess created by all sorts of neat people, including the previously featured Stream Angel. This came in a unique hand-crafted 7" single sleeve, and is a whole lot of fun. Ideal for laughter, forgetting, wondering and idleness. A is for Ace.

My mum got this tape when she went to Moscow in the mid-90s. I didn't know anything about the band until I looked them up today. They have their own website, and still perform. Iron curtain music is particularly entertaining.

He's Scottish, lives in Nottingham (at least he did, I haven't heard from him in a few years), and is a tape-trader/musician/collector of strange music/general odd-ball. K7 Heaven - Mission statement

First of all I need to explain the name. K7 is what the French call cassettes. In French it sounds like the word "cassette". Basically "kah-sett". Simple really. But in English K7, or "kay seven", rhymes with "Heaven"... so, nifty word play (or confusing cultural references) straight off the bat.

The idea is that I post mp3 files of my old cassettes on Rapidshare, and you download them. Easy.

I have all kinds of stuff and plenty more to come. Most of these tapes will never become CDs, and if they do... well, I guess someone should tell me, and I'll do whatever my conscience dictates.

Sound quality is rudimentary. I haven't cleaned these things up. Just played them on my Walkman, and converted them to mp3 format. Take it or leave it.

First tape post, hopefully tomorrow.
